\nआपल्या भाषणादरम्यान रवी शास्त्री अत्यंत भावूक झाले होते. आपल्या कुटुंबाचा उल्लेख करताना ते म्हणाले, “माझी पत्नी, मुलगी, बहीण आणि कुटुंबातील सर्व सदस्य आज येथे आहेत. पण एका व्यक्तीची उणीव खूप भासत आहे— माझे वडील. ते माझे खरे हिरो होते. ते नेहमी वानखेडेच्या गरवारे पॅव्हेलियनमधून माझे सामने पाहायचे. आज हा सन्मान पाहून त्यांना नक्कीच अभिमान वाटला असता.”
\nशास्त्रींनी आपल्या कारकिर्दीतील एक खास आठवण शेअर केली. ऑस्ट्रेलियाविरुद्ध खेळताना ब्रूस रीडच्या चेंडूवर त्यांनी मारलेला तो प्रसिद्ध षटकार ज्या दिशेला गेला होता, आज नेमक्या त्याच स्टँडला ‘रवि शास्त्री स्टँड’ असे नाव देण्यात आले आहे. “तो माझा आवडता शॉट होता आणि तो याच स्टँडच्या वरून गेला होता,” असे शास्त्रींनी आनंदाने नमूद केले.
