रिंकूचे वडील गेल्या काही आठवड्यांपासून लिव्हर कॅन्सरच्या चौथ्या स्टेजशी झुंज देत होते. त्यांच्यावर ग्रेटर नोएडा येथील यथार्थ रुग्णालयात उपचार सुरू होते. दक्षिण आफ्रिकेविरुद्धच्या सामन्यानंतर रिंकू त्यांना भेटण्यासाठी रुग्णालयात गेला होता. त्यानंतर कर्तव्याला प्राधान्य देत तो झिम्बाब्वेविरुद्धच्या सामन्यासाठी पुन्हा संघात सामील झाला. गुरुवारी झालेल्या सामन्यात तो खेळला नसला तरी क्षेत्ररक्षणासाठी मैदानात उतरला होता. मात्र, दुसऱ्याच दिवशी सकाळी त्यांच्या निधनाची बातमी आली.

\nयुवराज सिंग म्हणाला,”ही बातमी हृदय पिळवटून टाकणारी आहे. अशा कठीण प्रसंगी मी आणि संपूर्ण देश रिंकूच्या पाठीशी आहोत.” बीसीसीआयचे उपाध्यक्ष राजीव शुक्ला यांनीही बीसीसीआयतर्फे शोक व्यक्त केला असून रिंकूच्या धैर्याचे कौतुक केले आहे. रिंकूच्या या वैयक्तिक हानीबद्दल संपूर्ण क्रिकेट विश्वाने हळहळ व्यक्त केली आहे.
घरची परिस्थिती बेताची असतानाही रिंकूच्या वडिलांनी त्याला क्रिकेटर बनवण्यासाठी खूप कष्ट घेतले होते. आज आपला मुलगा यशाच्या शिखरावर असताना वडिलांची साथ सुटल्याने रिंकूवर दुःखाचा डोंगर कोसळला आहे.
