राज्यातील अनेक महापालिका, नगरपरिषदा जिल्हा परिषदा आणि पंचायत समिती निवडणुका गेल्या तीन ते चार वर्षांपासून प्रलंबित असून या ठिकाणी प्रशासनाद्वारे कामकाज चालू आहे. या पार्श्वभूमीवर सुप्रीम कोर्टाने देखील राज्य सरकारला चार महिन्यांमध्ये निवडणुका घेण्याच्या सूचना केल्या आहेत. यामुळे लवकरच निवडणुकीचे बिगुल वाजणार असल्याचे बोलले जात आहे. मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांनी देखील सुप्रीम कोर्टाच्या आदेशानुसारच निवडणुका आम्ही वेळतेच घेणार आहोत, असे स्पष्ट केले आहे. तर काही ठिकाणी पावसाची शक्यता वाटते तिथील निवडणुका लांबू शकतात असे सांगितले आहे.
