केंद्रीय पेट्रोलियम आणि नैसर्गिक वायू मंत्री हरदीप सिंग पुरी यांनी माध्यमांशी बोलताना सांगितले, “वित्त मंत्रालयाने पेट्रोल आणि डिझेलवर २ रुपये शुल्कवाढीचे नोटिफिकेशन जारी केले आहे. मात्र, हा भार ग्राहकांवर पडणार नाही. कच्च्या तेलाच्या जागतिक किमती कमी झाल्या असून, तेल कंपन्यांकडे ४५ दिवसांचा साठा आहे. जानेवारीत कच्च्या तेलाची किंमत ८३ डॉलर होती, ती आता ७५ डॉलरवर आली आहे. त्यामुळे कंपन्या सरासरी ७५ डॉलर दराने साठा वापरत आहेत.”

पुरी पुढे म्हणाले, “जागतिक किमतीनुसार तेल कंपन्या पेट्रोल आणि डिझेलच्या किमती कमी करतील, अशी अपेक्षा आहे. नियंत्रित क्षेत्रात या कंपन्या किरकोळ किमती बाजारानुसार समायोजित करतील.” यामुळे सर्वसामान्यांना दिलासा मिळाला असून, पेट्रोल-डिझेलच्या किमती स्थिर राहण्याची शक्यता आहे.
