कर्णधार हार्दिक पंड्या 30 तर दीपक हुडा 9 धावांवर खेळत असताना 9 व्या षटकानंतर पुन्हा एकदा पावसाला प्रारंभ झाला व खेळ थांबला. त्यावेळी भारताची 4 बाद 75 अशी स्थिती बनली होती. पंचांनी वारंवार पाहणी केली मात्र, पाऊस न थांबल्यामुळे अखेर हा सामना डकवर्थ-लुईस सूत्रांनुसार टाय घोषित करण्यात आला. न्यूझीलंडच्या धावसंख्येचा पाठलाग करताना या सूत्रानुसार भारताला 9 षटकाअखेर 75 धावा करणे गरजेचे होते व बरोबर तीतक्‍याच धावा धावफलकावर होत्या.

तत्पूर्वी, न्यूझीलंडचा बदली कर्णधार टीम साऊदीने नाणेफेक जिंकत पहिल्यांदा फलंदाजी करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. या सामन्याला प्रारंभ होण्यापूर्वीही पावसाने व्यत्यय आणला होता मात्र, काही वेळातच पाऊस थांबला व खेळ सुरू झाला. न्यूझीलंडच्या डावाची सुरुवात फारशी चांगली झाली नाही परंतु डेव्हन कॉनवे व ग्लेन फिलिप्स यांनी डाव सावरला होता. एकवेळ 15 षटकांत 2 बाद 130 अशा सुस्थितीत असतानाच भारताच्या अर्शदीप सिंग व महंमद सिराज यांनी पुढील अवघ्या 20 धावांत त्यांचे आठ फलंदाज बाद केले व 19.4 षटकांत त्यांचा डाव 160 धावांवर संपुष्टात आला.

कॉनवेने अर्धशतकी खेळी करताना 59 धावा केल्या. त्यात 49 चेंडूत 5 चौकार व 2 षटकार फटकावले. पिलिप्सने 54 धावा करताना 33 चेंडूत 5 चौकार व 3 षटकार फटकावले. या दोघांनी तिसऱ्या गड्यासाठी 63 चेंडूत 86 धावांची भागीदारी केली. मात्र, त्यानंतर त्यांचे फलंदाज पाठोपाठ बाद झाले. न्यूझीलंडची मधली फळी उधवस्त करताना सिराजने 17 धावांत 4 तर अर्शदीपने 37 धावांत 4 गडी बाद केले. हर्षल पटेलने 1 बळी घेतला. भारतीय संघाचा न्यूझीलंडविरुद्धचा सलग दुसरा मालिका विजय आहे. यापूर्वी भारतीय संघाने विराट कोहलीच्या नेतृत्वाखाली 2020 साली मालिका जिंकली होती.
