नाणेफेक गमावल्यानंतर प्रथम फलंदाजी करणाऱ्या ऑस्ट्रेलियाची सुरुवात खराब झाली. ट्रॅव्हिस हेड पाच धावा करून सिराजचा बळी ठरला. यानंतर मिचेल मार्श आणि कर्णधार स्टीव्ह स्मिथने दुसऱ्या विकेटसाठी 72 धावांची भागीदारी केली. स्मिथला हार्दिक पांड्याने यष्टिरक्षक केएल राहुलच्या हाती झेलबाद केले. त्याला 22 धावा करता आल्या. यानंतर मार्शने लबुशेनसोबत तिसऱ्या विकेटसाठी 52 धावांची भागीदारी केली. मार्शला जडेजाने सिराजच्या हाती झेलबाद केले. तो 65 चेंडूत 10 चौकार आणि पाच षटकारांच्या मदतीने 81 धावांची धडाकेबाज खेळी करून पॅव्हेलियनमध्ये परतला.

\nजडेजाने मॅक्सवेलला हार्दिककडे झेलबाद केले. मॅक्सवेलला आठ धावा करता आल्या. त्याचवेळी सिराजने शॉन अॅबॉट आणि अॅडम झम्पा यांना बाद करत ऑस्ट्रेलियाचा डाव 188 धावांत गुंडाळला. शमी आणि सिराजने प्रत्येकी तीन, तर जडेजाने दोन विकेट घेतल्या. हार्दिक आणि कुलदीपने प्रत्येकी एक विकेट घेतली.
