वेनेझुएलातील या यशस्वी मोहिमेनंतर आता ट्रम्प यांनी मेक्सिकोला लक्ष्य केले आहे. एका ताज्या मुलाखतीत बोलताना ट्रम्प यांनी स्पष्ट केले की, मेक्सिकोमध्ये सध्या अंमली पदार्थ तस्कर टोळ्यांचे वर्चस्व असून त्यांना रोखण्यासाठी आता अमेरिकन सैन्याला जमिनीवर उतरून कारवाई करणे अनिवार्य झाले आहे. अमेरिकेत होणाऱ्या अंमली पदार्थांच्या एकूण तस्करीमध्ये मेक्सिको आणि वेनेझुएला या देशांचा मोठा वाटा आहे. नार्को-दहशतवादाविरुद्ध पुकारलेल्या या लढ्यात अमेरिकेने आधीच समुद्रातील तस्करीचे अनेक जहाज निकामी केले आहेत आणि आता मेक्सिकोमधील तस्करांच्या अड्ड्यांवर थेट लष्करी प्रहार करण्याची तयारी सुरू केली आहे.
\nअमेरिका आणि मेक्सिको हे एकमेकांचे शेजारी आणि व्यापारी भागीदार असले तरी, ट्रम्प यांच्या या नव्या धमकीमुळे दोन्ही देशांतील संबंध कमालीचे ताणले गेले आहेत. मेक्सिकन सरकारच्या वतीने अद्याप यावर कोणतीही अधिकृत प्रतिक्रिया देण्यात आलेली नाही. मात्र, अमेरिकेने जर मेक्सिकोच्या सीमेत घुसून लष्करी कारवाई केली, तर याचे पडसाद संपूर्ण जगावर उमटण्याची शक्यता वर्तवण्यात येत आहे.
