एका पोलीस अधिकाऱ्याने दिलेल्या माहितीनुसार, “चेतिया, 2009 च्या बॅचचे आयपीएस अधिकारी असून त्यांनी आयसीयूमध्ये त्यांच्या सर्व्हिस पिस्तूलने स्वतःवर गोळी झाडली. यामुळे त्यांचा जागीच मृत्यू झाला. राज्याचे गृह सचिव म्हणून नियुक्तीपूर्वी, शिलादित्य चेतिया यांनी तिनसुकिया आणि सोनितपूर जिल्ह्याचे एसपी आणि आसाम पोलिसांच्या चौथ्या बटालियनचे कमांडंट म्हणून काम केले होते.
\nत्याचवेळी आसाम पोलिसांचे डीजीपी जीपी सिंह यांनी ट्विटरवर पोस्ट करत आसामनचे गृहसचिव शिलादित्य चेतिया यांनी आज संध्याकाळी आत्महत्या केल्याची माहिती दिली आहे. काही मिनिटांपूर्वीच डॉक्टरांनी त्यांच्या पत्नीचा मृत्यू झाल्याची घोषणा केली होती, ज्या दीर्घकाळ कर्करोगाशी झुंज देत होत्या. संपूर्ण आसाम पोलीस दलावर शोककळा पसरली आहे.

\nमिळालेल्या माहितीनुसार, आसामचे गृहसचिव शिलादित्य चेतिया यांनी प्रदीर्घ आजारामुळे पत्नीच्या निधनानंतर मंगळवारी गुवाहाटी येथील एका खासगी रुग्णालयात आत्महत्या केल्याचा आरोप आहे. पोलिसांनी दिलेल्या माहितीनुसार, चेतिया यांनी हॉस्पिटलच्या आयसीयूमध्ये त्यांच्या अधिकृत रिव्हॉल्व्हरनं स्वतःवर गोळी झाडली. जिथे त्यांनी स्वतःवर गोळी झाडली, त्याच ठिकाणी त्यांच्या पत्नीचा मृत्यू झालेला. पीटीआयनं दिलेल्या माहितीनुसार, चेतिया यांच्या पत्नीला ब्रेन ट्यूमरचं निदान झालं होतं. गेल्या अनेक दिवसांपासून त्या या गंभीर आजाराशी झुंज देत होत्या. पण, अखेर त्यांची मृत्यूशी झुंज अपयशी ठरली. त्यांच्या मृत्यूनंतर अवघ्या काही मिनिटांतच त्याच ठिकाणी चेतिया यांनी स्वतःवर गोळी झाडून आत्महत्या केल्याचे सांगितले जात आहे.
