लोकसभेत सध्याच्या ५४१ सदस्यसंख्येनुसार, बहुमतासाठी ३६० मतांची गरज आहे. एनडीए (NDA) कडे २९३ सदस्य असून त्यांना अद्याप ६७ मतांची आवश्यकता आहे.
\nराज्यसभा येथे १६३ मतांची गरज असून एनडीएकडे १४२ सदस्य आहेत, म्हणजेच २१ मतांची कमतरता आहे.
\nविरोधकांनी अट घातली आहे की, जर सरकारने महिला आरक्षण आणि मतदारसंघ पुनर्रचना या दोन गोष्टी वेगळ्या केल्या, तरच ते या विधेयकाला पाठिंबा देतील. आता या राजकीय पेचप्रसंगात सरकार काय भूमिका घेते, याकडे संपूर्ण देशाचे लक्ष लागले आहे.
